May 30, 2018

🌁🌁 Hi Guys JD the Kid is in the house! I went to Turkey on a PRBOX press trip and guess what I saw so many great things. One of the main things that I love is history and boy has Turkey got lots of it. 🌁🌁

✈️✈️I was so intrigued by the Ottoman Empire and also how the Tomb Rocks came about, all year I have been studying different global histories and its all so cool learning about how the world evolved and how history has impacted the world. Whether it’s an ancient site that contradicts historical facts or the world’s second oldest railway, there’s a lot you don’t know about this wonderful place. ✈️✈️

✈️✈️As I have been learning about this, I was lucky enough to go on a press trip with PR Box to visit the Tomb Rocks and different areas of Turkey along the Turquoise coast here are some facts about Turkey if you want to learn more about the history too then check out our super cool videos going up next week. ✈️✈️

✈️✈️FUN FACTS ABOUT TURKEY ✈️✈️

✈️✈️Leonardo da Vinci was almost responsible for the Galata Bridge - Between 1502 and 1503, Sultan Beyazid II solicited Leonardo da Vinci to design a bridge that would span the Golden Horn.✈️✈️

✈️✈️There are no native camels in Turkey, but there’s an annual camel wrestling festival - Every year, the Selçuk Efes Camel Wrestling Festival, established by the Turkic tribes more than 2,000 years ago, takes place in Turkey’s southern Aegean coast.✈️✈️

✈️✈️Santa Claus was born in Turkey - Santa Claus, or more precisely Saint Nicolas, a Christian saint and Greek Bishop of Myra, was born in Patara, Lycia or what is now known as Demre in Turkey✈️✈️

✈️✈️Virgin Mary resting place is in Turkey - Yep you heard me right the Virgin Mary’s final resting place is thought to be somewhere near Ephesus.✈️✈️

✈️✈️One of the Mediterranean’s main sea turtle nesting beaches is in Turkey - Located near the tourist summer hot spot Fethiye, Iztuzu Beach is one of the most important breeding grounds for the loggerhead turtle. Tünel continues to run between Beyoğlu and Karaköy and is one of the oldest surviving rail lines in continental Europe.✈️✈️

✈️✈️Turkey introduced tulips to the world - Even though no one knows where tulips are originally from, it’s certain that the Ottomans loved the flower and helped to make it popular all around Europe. The story goes that a Flemish ambassador, who visited Süleyman the Magnificent, introduced the flower to Holland in the 16th century.✈️✈️
